Located at the foot of the scenic
Blue Ridge Mountains, 30 minutes from Blowing Rock, Caldwell County
is one of four counties that form the fourth largest metropolitan
statistical area in North Carolina. The county ranges from 900
to 5,964 feet at Grandfather Mountain, its lush, rolling countryside
nurtured by the Catawba River and encircled by the famed Blue Ridge
Parkway with its magnificent mountain views. Here you’ll
enjoy a multitude of outdoor recreational opportunities, with four
distinct seasons, an average temperature of 60 degrees and an average
of 49 inches of rain annually. The area’s rich
history dates back to just before the Revolutionary War, with many
historical sites that have been preserved to this day. Today, Caldwell
County is home to 78,000 people, most of who reside in the county
seat of Lenoir. Once renowned for being one the furniture manufacturing
capitals of the South, Caldwell County’s economy has become
more diversified, moving toward high-tech industry. Google is building
a massive data center in Lenoir, with companies as diverse as VX
Aerospace and Advanced Micro Power Research Technology Incubator
(RTI) opening manufacturing facilities or relocating to the area.
Downtown Lenoir is also in the midst of a sweeping revitalization
that is breathing new life into the business and cultural life of
the county. The tax rate is low. The cost of living is attractive. Property
is reasonably priced. And the entire area is well-connected to anywhere
in the region and beyond by the Blue Ridge Parkway, Interstate 40,
US Highways 64 and 321 and several regional airports. Together with
its natural, historical and cultural advantages, it’s easy
to see why Caldwell County offers residents and visitors alike an
unsurpassed quality of life.
